Diet Natural Treatment For ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which is a mental disorder, is most commonly treated effectively by behavioral therapy and medications. But additional treatments may be necessary depending on the child's symptoms. Special educational interventions such as tutoring and occupational therapy may also be provided if necessary.

The Natural Treatments

Diet manipulation, allergy treatment, chiropractic treatment, attention training, psychotherapy, body treatments and visual training may be effective in some children.

Refined sugars and artificial additives such as coloring agents and preservatives must be avoided. A well balanced diet is essential in the development of the brain in children.

Try to include omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin B6, magnesium and iron and zinc may be included in the diet. Omega 3 fatty acids, which are highly concentrated in the brain, are very essential for cognitive and behavioral function. Omega 3 fatty acids are commonly found in cold water fish such as salmon, mackerel, halibut and hering. Dietary supplements can help to overcome the deficiencies of these nutrients.

Children should be encouraged to have regular dietary and sleeping patterns. Reducing the time spent by a child watch television or playing violent games may sometimes help.

Mind and body techniques such as relaxation therapy and a biofeedback training help to reduce the antisocial behaviours associated with ADHD. Herbs such as lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), valerian (Valeriana officinalis) and skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) are shown to be effective in treating ADHD.

Massage and physical therapy has been shown to be effective in reducing anxiety in children with ADHD.
